About

What is Technica?

Technica is the University of Maryland's all-women hackathon. Over the duration of 24 hours, women are immersed in tech culture and encouraged to exercise their imagination to create interesting and innovative hacks. Technica is diverging from the typical hackathon as we encourage gender diversification and ask sponsors to hack alongside students in order to build stronger connections between students and the tech world.

Women are underrepresented in the tech world, but it’s up to us women to change that! We are creating a welcoming environment to show that there is a place in tech for every lady out there while building cool projects and sharing stories at Technica.

Students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend, even if you’ve never written a line of code. We’re prepared to teach you everything you need to learn right here while also supporting the most experienced hackers.

Please register to be a volunteer here, we'd love to have you! Volunteers can be any gender, and are critical to ensure that Technica operates smoothly. This year, we expect around 900 hackers, so we need all the help that we can get!

Technica 2017 will be held in the Reckord Armory at the University of Maryland, College Park from November 4th-5th, 2017.

Technica is free for all participants thanks to our amazing sponsors! The event includes admission, food, overnight stay, and a lot of free gear and swag!

Anyone who identifies as a woman or non-binary may register as a hacker! All ages are welcome. Additionally, all participants must follow the MLH code of conduct.

You can work on a team or work solo. Teams can be constructed prior to arrival with friends, or can be formed during the time allocated for team formation before the official hacking begins. Team size must not exceed four members, according to MLH rules.

You must bring a valid student or government issued ID card for admission. Bring your laptop, charging cables, and a sleeping bag/pillow if that makes you more comfortable for the night. We also recommend bringing toiletries and a change of clothes. Everything else will be provided!
